When The World Turns Upside Down…What To Do?!
THE WORLD IS CHANGING
The world as we’ve known it is changing – and more change is imminent! Many people are aware of big changes coming our way, although no-one really knows exactly what or how or when.
We may think that we’re prepared, but there will be some surprises for everyone, even the most prepared amongst us! I think the surprises will be beneficial for humanity – but in the meantime, things just may not feel comfortable, as old systems and old belief structures crumble. The lightning WILL strike and the tower WILL fall. The waves may roar and the waters may be rough for a wee bit.
How do we navigate these temporary rough waters, these rapids? How do we go with the flow of our world’s transition and not flip our boat upside down?! Sometimes our ocean liner feels like a flimsy canoe, where the slightest move can have us taking an involuntary plunge into cold water.
This time of a temporarily rough transition IS coming. In fact, it’s here.
Here are some ways to keep your boat right side up - please add your favourites in the comments below!

DO NOT PANIC
This is #1 for a reason. When we panic, we lose our ability to reason, we lose our ability to think of creative solutions, and we lose our neurochemical balance, not to mention our emotional equilibrium. We then have to recover from the upset, before we can even start to put on our creative thinking hats. This takes enormous energy, wastes valuable time, and exacts a deep toll on our well-being.
Decisions and actions taken during a state of panic are rarely useful. Our brain flips into operating from primitive fight, flee, or freeze programs.
We may have the impulse to blame others and become aggressive towards those we’ve been taught are the ‘other.’ Instead, make an effort to be kind.
We may have the impulse to go into a state of escapist denial – when has that really helped?! Instead, just stay present and take deep breaths.
We may feel like we are paralyzed and cannot take any action. Instead, just rest. Allow the paralysis to just be, and to force you into a state of rest. Breathe.

FOCUS ON BREATHING
We have a marvellous coping mechanism built right in! Here are two ways you can use your breath to help calm you down:
- Use ‘square’ breathing. Breathe in for 3 counts, suspend your breath for 3 counts, exhale for 3 counts, and rest for 3 counts. You can up the counts as you’re able.
- Use a two-breath sequence to handle rough emotions. 1) Breathe in to gather the fear, or whatever emotion you are experiencing, and then breathe all of that out to the universe to dissipate it for you. You can exhale loudly or make sounds – that can really help! And you can put your hand on your heart for comfort and connection. 2) Breathe in ‘I AM,’ and breathe that out to your body. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat, for whatever emotions come up.
There is a very powerful breathing meditation gift for you, if you would like it: “Breathing Your I AM Presence.” Just scroll down to the bottom of the page! Please receive it with my love!
YOU ARE WATCHING A MOVIE
Please remember that much or most of what is going on in our world is scripted. It is, moreover, becoming a movie of the absurd. When you get past the panic, you can start to see the absurdity. So get your popcorn, settle in, and watch the show.

Nothing is really as it seems. When there are rumours of wars and dictatorships, what is really going on could be something very different. Be prepared to be surprised. Most of what we have been taught about the world has been pure fiction. The false stories are unravelling. Be patient. Connect with what is most true, like the unbelievably beautiful nature that surrounds us.
GET IN TOUCH WITH NATURE
The truest true in our wold is nature. Please, connect with the earth, the trees, the birds, the squirrels. They care nothing for the politics and scare tactics of seemingly powerful people. They follow the rhythms of their divinely-connected instinctual nature. Love is love. Nature love is Love. It’s all the same Love. Receive it and enjoy it. Be it! Allow your heart to open to what is pure and innocent and beautiful. Laugh at the antics of squirrels, and the squabbling of birds!

CULTIVATE A QUIRKY SENSE OF HUMOUR
Okay, so maybe it helps to be quirky to start with! I love the Far Side comics, so that gives you an idea! Anons’ memes have saved my sanity the last three years. When you can laugh at the ‘monsters’ who are threatening you, that’s next-level humour-meister. And in your own life, can you see the humour and absurdity in the little things? When you realize it’s all a show, sit back and observe with the eye of a comedian.

Horace Walpole famously said, “This world is a comedy to those that think, a tragedy to those that feel.” Quit letting others pull your emotional chains to set off your triggers! Most of what is posted in media of all kinds, is to get you to feel angry, scared, indignant, or zealously compassionate – often for absolutely fake or set-up situations! Step back a bit, disengage your emotions, and just observe from a more logical stance – and see if there are inconsistencies or fallacies in what is being presented. Human emotions are both our power and our bait. Don’t bite. Just say, “Hmm, that’s interesting,” and move on. Unconditional love and kindness is all the emotion we need to respond with.
PRACTICE LOVE AND KINDNESS
Establish real human contact. You know, that kind where you are both in bodies near each other? Say hello to your neighbour, smile at people on the street, make a kind comment when you meet people walking in the park. We need each other. We are stronger together. We are not strangers. These are the people with whom you will create a new world. Connect.
PRAY
If you are not in the habit of connecting with I AM or Source or God, or whatever you call the infinite One, now would be a really good time to start. After all, this is point of the whole exercise.
It’s as easy as putting your hand on your heart, asking your heart what it needs, and then asking for that, from whatever you perceive the great I AM to be. You are beloved. You are infinite and eternal. You can ask, and you can receive. You can open the doors of abundant help by simply saying, “Thank you” and “Please help me,” and “I need…” Open yourself to the bliss of inner oneness with your divine ‘higher self.’

BE A BEAUTY SCOUT
And last, but definitely not least, be on the lookout for beauty. The snow falling gently, the dramatic red of cardinals in the white landscape (or green), the sound of water, the smell of coffee, a child’s giggle, the sensation of clean clothes on a clean body, the silence of trees, the moon’s aura, the V of geese in the autumn, the tender green of new plants, the light of welcome in your friend’s eyes, a real heart-to-heart hug, the smell of rain or autumn leaves, the comfort of a cozy bed…notice the beauty. It’s everywhere. THIS is real. Enjoy.
We WILL transit these waters that may feel rough for a little while. We will.
Stay calm. Focus on what is most important. Let the rest go. Know that you are seen. You are loved. You are definitely not alone! You are part of the greatest thing that has ever happened on this planet. We are in this together.
